O'Flaherty's Irish Pub, right in San Pedro Square in downtown San Jose, has a really inviting vibe. You can sit at tables on the sidewalk or out on the street that's been closed off. They've got a QR code on each table for easy access to their drink and food menu. The staff were great, frequently checking in to make sure our drinks were full. It's an ideal spot for a casual hangout or a fun night out with friends. The Irish-themed décor adds a nice touch to the whole experience!

Ah, such a delight! One of my favorite places near San Pedro square to have a pint and do some people watching. Live music is available some nights and quiz night is always fun. Fantastic service too. Bartenders are superb and usually quite busy. Overall, a great vibe. I prefer the slower nights where the crowd is a bit less to allow myself time to meditate on my pint. There are TVs for live sports, which is always fun.

O'Flaherty's is more than just another bar. It's a pub. Yeah, they sell drinks and food and have sports on the TV, but even the casual observer will immediately spot the sense of community around the place that you get from a pub. The staff and patrons genuinely seem to enjoy being there and it's not cliquish, as you might get in some neighbourhood bars. There's an ever-rotating selection of not only beers on tap, but also ciders and kombucha for folks that want something different. They also have a good selection of whisk(e)y and tequila and I've had a decent negroni and old fashioned when the evening has called for it. The Guinness pours are consistently proper, and something all the staff pride themselves on. Jameson is the soupe du jour. Sláinte. As well as supporting the local Bay Area sports teams, they also scratch the itch of many expats for world rugby and soccer events. They're a flag-flying Liverpool bar and home to the Silicon Valley Liverpool supporters club. As such, they often open early for world cup, euro and Liverpool games. For a place that's open after a lot of bars and restaurants are closed, and is open during downtown events and so-called drinking holidays, the management and staff do a great job at making sure dumb things don't escalate. That may not seem a high bar, but I know that if my friend's (over 21) kids are going there for a drink after an event downtown, they're not likely to end up in the middle of something stupid.
